You’re back! She’s a cutie. And isn’t that giraffe the best thing for teething?

Yessss I love Sophie. Totally worth the $22. I sterilized her once and her squeaker stopped working, BRU replaced it tho :3

You’re back! She’s perfect! Yay! I think I remember she was having trouble gaining weight. Glad that seems to be over! :)
Yeah she’s FARKING HUGE now. She just started gaining and hasn’t stopped… She’s almost 22 lbs now. Chunky munky@

tenderstatue replied to your post: TW: child abuse.

It’s because they substitute spanking for discipline. You can discipline your kids without scaring or beating the shit out of them. Then again, a firm pat on the (diapered) butt or a light smack on the hand can be appropriate accompaniment to a “no.”

I agree, and I don’t think that’s the same as spanking as a punishment. If she’s reaching for a knife or sticking something in an electrical socket or something, then yeah you swat their hand away. But taking a kid who’s, say, throwing a temper tantrum or something into a different room and calmly explaining what they did  wrong and that you’re going to hit them multiple times to make sure they don’t do it again seems downright torturous.

NB: I make mine with Silk original soymilk, and I use 1/3 cup of the mix, not 1/3 cup plus 2 tbsp or whatever the directions say. Friend of mine uses vanilla soymilk and says it’s more like original Ovaltine that way. (Is there an Ovaltine cult?)

If there is I would totally join it. We normally drink regular non-fat milk, but I have a feeling I’m going to have to switch to soymilk soon - I was lactose intolerant as a baby and my mom swears it’s because she had so much dairy when she was pregnant, and I’ve been going to town on dairy like no one’s business. I’ll see what it’s like with milk and if it’s meh I’ll pick up some soy. I’m missing the soymilk/HN cheerios combo that tasted like reeses pieces anyway.

tenderstatue replied to your post: Ovaltine has a “new and improved” formula

Have you tried Carnation Breakfast Essentials? It’s much better than it was when it was Carnation Instant Breakfast. I switched when Ovaltine changed.

I will definitely try this. I drank 2 glasses of the new ovaltine today in an attempt to make it taste better. It didn’t.

tenderstatue replied to your post: Just had my OB tell me I have a giant baby

I think this could be the reason that I — a short woman who came into this world as a small baby — am subconsciously attracted to short guys. I don’t want big babies, should I ever decide to have babies.

Yeah I have  no such luck… I’m average-ish (5’6) but Jesse is 6’3… and even though my mom is small, she came out at 8lbs 12 ounces… I knew we would have a fat baby because we were both huge, but we came out normal sized and exploded around 3 months. She’s just getting an early start I guess….?

i’m TERRIBLE at painting my nails, i feel your pain. i feel useless when i look at nail blogs. plus, i have what people call ‘baby nails.’ they are really short even when i grow them out. they look like baby’s nails…

That’s one of the reasons I like painting them, because they’re so ugly naturally and I can’t afford acrylics any more (well mostly I’m too lazy to make it in to the salon for the upkeep and I can’t ride my bike to the one around the corner anymore)

My brother has perfect nails. Seriously, anyone who wants a good manicure would be incredibly jealous of him. Idek why.

Sephora makes this nail polish corrector pen thingy AND IT IS AWESOME.
This sounds like something very relevant to my interests! I must investigate.

tenderstatue replied to your post: Had my “prepared childbirth” class yesterday

Yeah, being in the delivery room and watching my best friend go through induced labor, an epidural, and then childbirth pretty much turned me off to ANY idea of having children. That was 10 years ago.

See, that’s what freaks me out too: Epidurals. I mean, I sure as shit don’t want to feel the pain of childbirth, but a catheter in my SPINE and being virtually paralyzed freaks me out as well. This is a no-win situation here, people.

Also, inducing labor usually makes it even worse. So YAY for that…
